Well that’s as much as you’ll ever get in terms of information. It won’t open so that means something else has it open (i assume it’w windows), there is nothing you can do about it, unless you choose to close it in whatever other application it’s open in.

ONLY ONE PROCESS CAN HAVE THE MIDI DEVICE OPEN AT THE SAME TIME ON WINDOWS.

Atom, if I remember correctly you owned a Esi m8u midi interface, supposedly the only multiclient midi interface for Windows. Can you confirm if it is in fact multiclient on Windows? I need a new midi interface as my old Motu (parallel port) has no drivers for Windows x64 and it’s my main candidate for this reason.

From what I’ve read about the unit it doesn’t need drivers as is driver compliant, unless you want the multiclient feature, and for this there are drivers.

              Thanks.

At some point i wanted to implement RtMIDI device handling, this uses the Kernel Streaming interface on windows and that’s always multi-client.

Anyway here: http://www.juce.com/forum/topic/windows-multiple-client-usb-midi-drivers some RME devices are mentioned.

I myself own the M8U XL and indeed it says multiclient on windows, but i need to check if my unit has special drivers installed or is it using those “class compliant” drivers already inside windows.

i installed ctrlr standalone and it works.
im able to select the midi output device now.
im using reaper and stand alone ctrlr but still prefer to have ctlr as a vst 🙁

i installed ctrlr vst32bit and it works! i dont know why the ctrlr vst64bit wont work for me… its probably something about reaper in the settings.

I can confirm that ESI 8MUXL is multi client capable, i was using Ctrlr + FLstudio both standane with flstudio sending timecode and ctrlr sending CC on the same output with no problem.
