What about a controller for the "old" analog beast Waldorf Microwave. It uses sysex for remote control. I have docs with sysex info, if you need.

Well the Microwave has two popular o.s. release:1.25 and 2.0. Let’s say 2.0 is more popular with some great adds on.

          here the standard documentation
          [url:1u5sx628]http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads?relPath=microwave/Documentation[/url:1u5sx628]

take a look to: [b:1u5sx628]MicrowaveSysex 2_0.txt[/b:1u5sx628] and [b:1u5sx628]Sysex 2_00_addendum.txt[/b:1u5sx628] I think there is everything you need.

I found another folder named Microwave 2.0 with this sysx.txt
          [url:1u5sx628]http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads?relPath=microwave/Microwave%202.0/Docs[/url:1u5sx628]
the sysx.txt is a complete list of sysex implementation for each aspect of remote controlling (dump, editing…) I don’t know if it’s a duplicate of the previous link or if they joined the sysex2.0txt with the 2.00addendum.

          thanks again !

i have this together with the access programmer.
what i can do is get a dump of the movement of every knob and button on it with something like midiox

(btw does midimon provide suck functionality?)

Well i was looking at this, but all i found is information on sysex dumps, big chunks of sysex data that contain the whole programs. If the Microwave has no other of editing parameters (shorter sysex messages that change just one parameter, like the Juno or Evolver) then the only other way is to send an entire program on eny parameter change, witch is a thing a lot of editor do and something i’m trying to avoid for the Ctrlrs. It is necessary for some synths (Casio CZ series) but i have not implemented it yet, since it will require a timing mechanism no to flood the MIDI bus.

If you can find any manual that mentions parameter editing in some other way, give me a link. But if it’s only this one way then it has to wait until i build an engine for that.

It does have that – I use my Novation Remote SL for editing the Microwave via sysex. I’ll try to find my documentation and will then mail it to you.

Well if i get some docs i can try to cook something up, without some docs or the actual unit i can’t really do anything.

Hey, just stumbled upon this project, really like the idea and design decisions, plus the fact that a ctrlr is already available for one of my favourite hardware synths (Alpha Juno).

Anyway, I also love my Microwave I Rev A V2.0 and would like to support this request. If it turns out that per parameter sysex docs are indeed not available from the manufacturer or anywhere else and reverse engineering the messages is the only option (what mamonu suggested, by using the Access programmer) there is a software editor from SoundTower (yes, those guys *cough*) that has support for most parameters. It should be possible to analyze its output with a MIDI monitor. Its sysex implementation seems to be a little buggy though – I found that my Microwave didn’t like some of the edits, LFO2 rate for example. (Note: I have only used this under WINE so far which may have caused "interesting" side effects, unlikely though.)

I’ll see if I can have a look at this and maybe collect some of the sysex it sends. The SoundTower editor could also help to inspire GUI design I guess, as it does a somewhat decent job of presenting the parameters in a logical way.

If someone can send me the soundtower editor i’ll see what i can do.

The demo can be downloaded here: http://www.soundtower.com/synth/microwave1.htm

I don’t quite remember what the limitations in the demo were. If it refuses to send some of the sysex it won’t be of much use of course. I do have a registration key (ie I bought the full version) but obviously cannot provide that due to licensing terms. Maybe I can still help out. I’ll PM you after I have installed the software in my new Win7 environment.

i would like to apologize but as i have just been made redundant in my job i had other pressing matters to attend (crisis is an excuse around here to fire moderately paid employees. )

but i will be able this month to get some readings from the programmer and send them

I hope it will be useful.

I had my first Waldorf Microwaves manufactured in the US. It was a gift of my uncle who works there. According to him, he bought it from Russ Jones who was the distributor that time. I’ve had this Microwave for over several years now and it works like a charm and sounds great.

know that it has been a long time however i have been through a shitstorm.

I have sold the MW access programmer but not before capturing all sysex with MIDIOX

anyway here it is hoping thats it going to be of some use creating a CTRLR replica <img decoding=” title=”Wink” />

with ctrlrv5 i hope to simplify tasks like that. if you have some data/info on the device it should be possible to create an editor using just your mouse (and perhaps single line snips of lua code to do bit operations, i guess we won’t escape from that)
