message i/o to/from host calls?

I’ve got a indicator light that illuminates if a midi message is sent from the synth to the panel through a simple Lua script.
It’s not really necessary but it’s nice to have.
Along the same lines, I would also like to have indicators that could illuminate when a message is sent from the host to the panel, and vice-versa, from the panel to the host. Is it possible to add to some class a type of function that can be called either to get or send to/from the host? I can see this possibly being useful in other ways. It’s probably not a big priority unless it could be done simply.
