I need to change my midi interface (currently i have a M-Audio MIDI Sport 4×4) i want more ports, so the other two options i found are Motu MIDI Express 128 and the ESI M8U XL
does anyone have any exprience with any of theese ? i’ll be connecting this to a Win7 x64 so i was wondering how the drivers work, also how is the timing (m-audio is not very good
      with audio accurate sync).

I have Express 128 on win7 64. I haven’t had any issues to speak of or problems with timing. I just upgraded to them from old Steinberg Midex 8’s, so I haven’t really hammered them yet. PErhaps someone who’s owned on for longer can comment further.

The ESI is class compliant, and the class compliant driver is NOT multi-client, afaik

I’d stick with MOTU but be extra careful with which generation you pick up. I just picked up a used USB MTP AV to replace my parallel MTP AV and Express XT interfaces but now need to track down a ROM chip to get it working in win XP.
Also if you buy a used MOTU chances are you’ll probably want to replace the battery – lots of people sell their "dead" interfaces and the only thing wrong with them is the battery is dead or dying. <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

I just got a call from the music store and the MOTU devices got called back by MOTU, there seems to be a problem with some ICs in the whole MIDI line and i can’t get any. So i moved to the ESI unit hope that will work too.

                Say Whaaaaaaat?

Going to have to look into this more.
Looks like the ESI supports multi-client as well for all operating systems. I didn’t think about that aspect when I picked up my MOTU’s. But I bought all of mine used (new models), so if I decide to sell them, I won’t take much of a hit.
