Hi,

I tried to use Ctrlr in logic 9 express with the JX8P panels. I set up the midi connections and the panel is actually sending sysex to the JX8P. When I move a slider the JX8P responds correctly. The only problem I have is that the panel does not seem to transmit midi notes (that I play with my midi controller) to the JX8P – so I can’t play it. The panel also does not receive midi CC. The midi monitor only shows both in/out when I enable the midi through device to device option, but the midi is still not transmitted. At least the CC controls should work, because I get midi in with every option… I have the same problem with the panels JX8Programmer and Roland JX8P – Hm. I’m so close. I’ve been looking for quite a while now for a way to automate the JX8P within logic 9 and Ctrlr seems to great. I hope I made some stupid mistake

      Bye!

What do you expect the panel to do with MIDI CC messages ? Midi notes that you play with your controller are transmitted where (what midi devices are set up in logic and in ctrlr).

I think he wants to control his jx8p with another keyboard through CTRLR. For example: let’s say I would want to use my m-audio controller within ctrlr to control my "synth" + the ability to modify the synth through the panel…

For example, you could define 1 main controller in the midi setup and whatever comes in on that midi input, goes on the midi outputs

            Hi Chris,

that’s exactly what I would like to do. Thanks Of course, I activated the correct midi Input (my midi keyboard) and the midi output (to the JX8P) in the CTRLR Midi Settings. Additionally, I selected these midi inputs/outputs in the general panel edit window (JX8Programmer panel). In the edit window for specific sliders I found the option "Midi Controller number". I entered the number of one of the available midi controllers on my keyboard for one slider to test it. The result of this setup: CTRLR (respectively the "panel") correctly sends sysex to the jx8P. When I manually control the sliders it works. But to control the slider with my midi keyboard does not work. Furthermore, the JX8P only receives midi notes (played on the keyboard) when I choose the options "MIDI thru Device>Device" + "Channelize messages from device". But this setup seems to connect my keyboard directly to the jx8P regardless of which midi tracks are activated in logic. Sorry for writing so much. It seems like a simple thing to do… It seems that the panel is somehow not responding to midi… That’s what I wanted to say.

I’ll play around with CTRLR a bit, but I would be thankful for any advice.

            Bye.

Look the point of Ctrlr as a plugin is that it exports parameters (all the knobs and buttons on the panel) to the host, in your case Logic. Now the idea is for the HOST to map your keyboard CC/Notes to those parameters of ANY plugin. Thats what you do you load a plugin synth of some sort and you map it’s parameters to the MIDI from your keyboard in your host you don’t do that directly in the plugin. The same rule applies to Ctrlr, i have no idea how to do it in Logic cause i don’t use that program (i think this forum post might help https://discussions.apple.com/thread/23 … ID=2332833).

Hi, thanks again. Ok, it’s clear that the host is actually assigning the midi CC although there is a "midi learn" function in some au instruments. Unfortunately, the "learn mode" in logic does not recognize the panel parameters. When in learn mode, logic should recognize a parameter when I move a slider/knob (CTRLR panel) and then I can assign the midi controller (as described in the post you forwarded me to). It works with my other au instruments… So, maybe it is logic 9 that is somehow not able to fully integrate CTRLR… When I find a solution for logic I’ll post it here. Thanks for answering so quickly. Bye!

I think this might be due to an old problem with parameters in Ctrlr. Since Ctrlr does not know about all the parameters before any panel is loaded the host does not see them at load time and does not ask about them later on. I’ll be making a feature that was in ctrlr some time ago but got removed, a player mode where there will copies of Ctrlr and each copy will be an instance of a panel, the parameter problem will go away then cause Ctrlr will no all the parameters at load time.

Hi, this sounds like the answer to my problem. I’ll visit your site again. Thanks again for working on such a creative solution for control surfaces. It’s really a great thing. And although I’m (obviously) not a programmer I really find the way CTRLR works (also the edit mode) very intuitive. Bye!
