How about removing the toolbars with icons witch are unreadable at best, and replace it with a normal menu bar like any application has "File Edit Tools Windows Help" on the top ?

Sounds good, newcomers would feel more comfortable, too <img loading=” title=”Wink” />

So i’ve been working some more on this, and as you might have seen i was trying to add a "quick toolbar" yet another idea i had for the interface, but i got to thinking and thought maybe to integrate that into the Menu Bar, without adding additional UI elements. Just add a midi device selection submenus, midi channel selection (theres just 16 channels so that menu is not going to be that long), and all the other stuff that’s in the panel preferences right now (it’s a thought i had while trying to design yet another crappy looking icon/button/toolbar i just can’t do that). Any thought ?

Also some changes, see the changelog (not all of them impact the actual code but the build system witch got a performance boost)

sounds nice having a toolbar, especially for new users, as was pointed out.
I would anyway try to keep the toolbar as well, as it’s nice to access, for example, the Save button (or other things) with just one click.

Well the menu bar has the advantage of having keyboard mappings so you don’t need to click, you can map your own keyboard shortcuts. With a toolbar it will be harder.

I miss a bit some icons, specially those who open other windows (console, lua editor, modulator list, layer editor) because now I’m a little lost in the menu bar, but it’s true that keyboard shortcuts is the way to go.

But it could be interesting to add those shortcuts in the right click menu, or maybe a floating toolbar?

Well here is what i can say, for now i’ll add the stuff to the menu bar for the keyboard functionality to work. If someone offers to draw some black and white icons that will represent all the features and will somehow fit to the Ctrlr window, i’ll do a toolbar, otherwise i’m not going this way again, i just waste time in GIMP thinking i can draw.

Yeah I like it. I don’t like the ribbed menu bg’s tho.

Speaking of visibility… have you looked at incorporating Vinnie’s FreeType solution into ctrlr? I get what ppl are saying about JUCE’s font rendering, I’ve heard a few users complain about it too. I wouldn’t be so hard on Jules as some of those ppl over there are about it but sounds like TheVinn’s got a working solution, I’m just curious what kinds of results you’ve had if any?

hey, looking into this , i had an idea..

If you add a button to hide/unhide all menus (for testing panels)

    what do you think ?
