Once I’ve finished my current project (Ensoniq ESQ1) I’ll return to the FIZMO.
I guess what stopped me was that when I examined Sound Diver output to the FIZMO, when tweaking its FX parameters, the entire patch was being transmitted via SysEx. This wouldn’t be such a problem once I understand LUA scripting enough so that I can parse bulk dumps to Modulators back and forth.

My immediate ‘need’ for CTRLR Panels for my synths is motivated by wanting total recall of patches I make stored within DAW projects via Snapshots (liberating any reliance on managing internal memories). The ‘blast a snapshot’ at a synth and creating new sounds from an initial snapshot unique for each DAW project has been enjoyable for the past year or so. That level of integration hasn’t demanded creating LUA scripts yet. It’s time I stopped being lazy and roll up my sleeves so to speak. I eventually want all the panels I make to be able to parse SysEx dumps and write back to memories if need be.

Anyhow, dear thread, I’ll get back on to FIZMO when I’ve started getting jiggy with LUA.

I guess this is just how it works.

I’ll use a different component type instead.
        Oh well!

            Hi Pascal,

Keen to collab of course … Can you attach the panel you have in progress so far to this thread? I can’t download properly from your Github link.

            CheerS!

              Heya Puppeteer,

Thanks for chiming in and offering your expertise with LUA (I am a long way from getting to grips with LUA).

Your logic is completely sound … from a ‘human’ logic POV, the problem seems simple enough to solve. I was thinking along the lines of hooking a LUA method to the overall panel which is triggered whenever the panel sends MIDI data to the device which filters out redundant (repeated) NRPN headers where the header component is the same (i.e. same parameter selected across the CC98, C98) and just allows the CC6 data to emerge. Just not sure at this stage how to accomplish this – I need to learn LUA from scratch.
              ; )

I have no doubt your Kurz PC3 panel will have some epic functionality implemented!

              Cheers!

I haven’t had a chance to progress further on this project just yet (new day job and too many lighting/laser gigs eating into my precious studio time) however I will be keen to help out and co-develop a panel with you.

I acquired the AN1X some years ago and have yet to properly explore it from the front panel so development will take me longer than some who knows it’s architecture well. Happy to help out with GUI design (I managed to make a great MKS80 panel you’ll find in the downloads area).

Thanks for replying LFO2VCO … Yeah I have an ongoing love affair with my Matrix 1000 and forgive its CPU shortcomings – some of the best money I ever spent in my rig! Any tips for a source of pre-blown 1.13 ROMS?

Incidentally, how critical is the MIDI Global Output Delay parameter (you had set to 50 in this panel originally) to reliable comms with this unit? I ask because with it set to 50 there was a massive latency when I played notes from my controller keyboard and it’s solved since reducing that value down to something much lower (I tried 0, then 5 and have settled on 10).

Any idea why the Bank/Program numbers on the Matrix 1000 display do not update properly when I change patches using the Program Select function on this Panel?

Thank you for further development on this Panel since Atom doesn’t own a Matrix 1000 understandably could only take the project so far.

Looking forward to eventually rocking the new OS1.1.3 for the Matrix 1000!

                  Cheers

Thanks for updating this panel LFO2VCO, most appreciated!

I did find that I was experiencing very laggy playback and dropped notes initially with your Beta05 however found the Global MIDI Output Delay parameter in the properties for this Panel were set to 50. I’m assuming this is to account for the limitations of its CPU when receiving dumps/snapshots. I have set this to 0 and latency issue disappeared and have settled on a setting of 5 at the moment.

I can confirm also that the unit is sending back data when I select programs using the Patch Select list (nice work on that by the way).

Incidentally, my Matrix 1000 doesn’t yet have the 1.1.3 OS (mine has 1.1.1 I think).

The issue I’m having is that when I select patches using the Patch Select list, The programs are recalled inconsistently and the Bank/Program number showing on the Matrix 1000 does not match the Bank/Patch number selected in the Patch List. Is this a known problem for 1.1.1 OS or should I just bump up the MIDI Global Output Delay a bit more?

A further addendum … still having a problem (hopefully Atom can help).

                        1) I use the Export Instance function to create a VST plugin version using 5.2.139 then closed Live. I have then hidden CTRLR.vst from Ableton (by Zipping the . VST file and deleting the the .VST file) and re-launched Ableton.

                        2) The Mogue Voyuer.VST plugin appears available in Live (great). I launch it into a track, set the MIDI input and output Ports and Channels correctly. Tweaking Modulators sees the MIDI activity light flash on the Voyager (great).

                        3) Now I add a External Audio Effect Ableton object after the Mogue Voyeur plugin to bring the audio back into Ableton and configure the input. I get sound (great). I then select both inserts in the track and use Ableton’s Group function to create an instrument rack and then drag this into my Ableton user Library so I can recall this setup easily as a user preset.

                        4) I then close Live and relaunch it.

                        5) Now I attempt to drag the instrument rack user preset I created above. MIDI notes get to the Voyager however when I tweak the Modulators in the panel the MIDI data is not received by the Voyager.

                        6) In the panel MIDI settings I change the MIDI Output channel to something different (i.e. Channel 1) and then set it to the correct MIDI channel (i.e. Channel 8) – now it works.

What could be causing this behaviour?
Ideally, I want to easily pick my hardware synth and have channel/port settings recalled by simply loading the Instrument Rack preset and have it immediately ready to play and tweak without having to reselect the MIDI Output channel.

Hopefully this issue can be remedied in a future nightly build (OSX).

                        cheers

                          Hi Atom,

I noticed 5.2.139 was released for OSX.

Just reporting back that the following issues for this panel are now fixed:
                          – Snapshots are now working as they were before
                          – All Modulators are now sending data to the Moog Voyager
                          – Mouge Voyeur logo appears at the bottom of the plugin (i.e. font issue fixed)

Many thanks for releasing this update!

Thanks for reading this report Atom.
                            ; )

So i fixed the missing logo issue (it was actually a bigger font issue) and the snapshot menu issue. I’ll post some nightlies asap and it should work (the panel itself is ok)

Good to know the Panels won’t need repairing … Keen to check out a new nightly as soon as you have it ready to upload (only just got the Voyager so having working Snapshots again would be great).

As for the device when exported, are you sure you chose the correct MIDI device after the plugin has loaded? Can you try changing it to None and selecting the port again to see if it opens ok.

I’m sure I did however I’ll test again as you’ve directed and report back.

p.s. Atom, just a heads up that I’ve written a feature article about CTRLR for the forthcoming edition of Audio Technology Magazine (an Australian mag) in the spirit of expanding awareness of its usefulness and hopefully to see further growth of the community of Panel builders here. I’ll scan and post it to the forum once it is released.

p.p.s. CTRLR has been a total revolution in my studio – I can’t thank you enough (and the other devs) for empowering people like me with the ability to build our own Panels from scratch!

For the MKS80 I made a background image and then the knobs were created in Knobman (by Layzer – thank you!) which had alpha transparency and exported as a vertical stack of knob positions in a PNG file.

I figure that’s reasonably efficient unless others know better.

                                … and noticed another thing

After using the Export -> Save Instance function to create a new VST plugin, the panel Modulators no longer will send MIDI data to the Voyager … this issue doesn’t appear to be related to MIDI Channel settings since when using the VST plugin version exported version the MIDI activity indicators on my M Audio MIDIsport 2×2 no longer flash in response to tweaking the Modulators on the Panel (they were flashing with CTRLR 5.2.120 with the Panel loaded directly).

Also I should note that issue doesn’t happen for my MKS80 panel (created originally using CTRLR nightly versions from around Feb 2014) … Perhaps the Mouge Voyeur Panel was originally created in a much older version of CTRLR? []

Keen to know here as well since contemplating buying one (based on the fact a CTRLR Panel is already made for it – and it sounds awesome).

No progress of yet I’m afraid.

I got as far as studying the SysEx streams which the OEM Sound Diver adaptation sends the FIZMO when changing FX algorithms, etc … each tweak would produce hundreds of bytes of SysEx data make it difficult to spot the changing parameter (I’m assuming the entire patch is being dumped).

I’ll return to this one when time/patience permits.

For the moment however I’m working on an improved version of Atom’s Mogue Voyeur Panel (most importantly the advanced parameters in the menus for things like Glide Modes, etc) since I’ve just been lucky enough to be given a Moog Voyager for my 40th birthday thanks to a large pool of my kind friends.
                                      ; )

Great news Atom! I see some new downloads for Linux and Windows have been added – I guess new OSX builds are in the works …

Thanks again for all of your hard dev work! I tell all of my producer buddies about how CTRLR is revolutionizing hardware integration in my studio (in the hope of attracting more people to the community to build more panels for more synths).

OK I tried using the Export Instance function to create a .VST version of my MKS80 panel.

Ordinarily I make use of my MKS80 by recalling an Instruments rack preset which has CTRLR (with MKS80 panel loaded and MIDI ports/channels configured properly) followed by External Effect (to route the audio input getting the audio feed from the synth into the rack). This is super convenient since I can just launch the synth like any other plugin without having to remember the MIDI port/channels it operates and which audio input it is connected to.

I substituted CTRLR in this Instrument Rack preset with the Roland MKS80.vst instance I created as suggested and resaved the Instrument Rack preset back into my user library. I then started a new Ableton project and recalled the revised Instrument Rack preset however instead of being presented with my MKS80 Panel, CTRLR is invoked without the panel loaded. Launching the Roland MKS80.vst directly without wrapping it in a Instrument Rack preset does what it should.

Can anyone suggest what I could be doing wrong so that generated .VST instance isn’t recalling the panel GUI when loaded from an Instrument Rack preset in Ableton?

Also another question: What does Regenerate UID on CTRLR’s File menu actually do and when would one need to use it?
