      Hey Highlander,

Hope you haven’t given up on this project. Have a look at the Matrix-1000 panel the guys here have been working on: http://ctrlr.org/forums/topic/question-about-oberheim-matrix1000-panel/

Compare the Oberheim MIDI tables for for the Matrix-1000 with the working of the panel and then adapt for your Matrix-6R MIDI tables. This might save you some effort, as Atom set up a very well organised panel in the first instance.

        Hi Ctrlrists,

OK, so once I got the 7-bitized parameter addresses out of the way I was able to move on with this project. This is how the panel looks so far…

        Spectrum Synth Beta Panel

Presently it only sends Sysex out to the synth parameters. I plan to add Bank/Patch selection and updates from the synths Edit Buffer. But for the time being I have attached a Beta panel so if there are any other Spectrum Synth users out there they can check it over.

        Constructed in Ctrlr version 5.1.2.

        Have fun…

Hi, to be honest I have never adjusted the MIDI Global Output Delay, it was on a setting the previous had made. Maybe I should have a fiddle with it.

I have been using the MIDI channel 1 for send and receive perhaps your should check your MIDI channel settings. This might effect with Patch and bank selection.

I bought my OS upgrade from a US eBays seller called ‘scientific-community’, http://www.ebay.com/usr/scientific-community?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2754
I found them to be honest and reliable.

Thanks for the feedback Jasefos, this panel has been a group effort so I am sure everyone involved will be pleased it is assisting another M1K user.

I have to say that if you can upgrade you OS to 1.1.3 it really does help make the Matrix far more responsive. That said the processor is very slow in this synth and that is a limitation you have to accept. But sound wise it is one hell of a synth.

BTW You can check the OS when you first switch it on, the display will very briefly flash up three numbers.

              OK, I think I have got there…

              The Parameter values are 7-Bitized.
So the Hex parameter 14A = 330 decimal.
I used MS LS on a uiSlider to calculate a 7-Bitized value of 02 4A.
              So the SySex string is now F0 00 00 1B 02 09 00 08 02 4A ms ls F7
With modulatorValue + 16 this seems to work.

I will now try this on the remaining modulators and report if successful.

                Hi Atom,

The Peavey info is confusing for sure 14A is the parameter address for Osc1 Mod2 according to latter info available on the net! According to the Peavey Manual it should be 09 the same as Osc1 Mod1 but +16.

Sorry I am really not understanding this, hence why I have called for a bit of assistance.

To put it in context I have attached a work in progress panel, the Peavey Spectrum Synth Manual and some additional info gleaned from the net.

I have posted a query over at: http://defectiverecords.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/375/peavey-spectrum-synth-sysex
Maybe one of those guys is using a PC-1600 to programme a Spectrum synth and can capture the required MIDI output to analyse.

                  Cheers Zeoka,
I am using a uiCombo to access a list of 15 modulation sources.

There are two such modulation source per section, I have the first working correctly. But the MIDI tables for the second have me stumped.

                    Hey Fredo,

I do it on the Mac when exporting an instance.

I open the Ctlr app via via app contents and swap out the original icon for a new one. I has to be to the same specifications as the original. I then export the instance which now acquires the new icon. Once done I restore the original Ctrlr icon in its app folder.

                    Hope this helps.

Hi, sorry I have not used the panel as a VST and do not have Ableton, so it could be either or just an incompatibility issue.

                        Hi Guys,

OK if the panel is in the depreciated section it may keen that the lua scripting is out of date when used with the latest version of ctrlr.

As far as I know (and I’m no expert) Atom made some changes to syntax a while back. It is most likely that the method used to distribute the sysex dump data to the various controls needs to be updated accordingly.

I would suggest that you find the method in the A-Station panel that does this task and compare it with similar from an up to date panel. The difference in syntax may be quite subtle, so you may have to dig deep.

                        I hope this helps.

Not sure if that can be done if the panel parameters are controlled via Sysex, maybe if they are controlled by CC?

Jinsai (Anu Kirk’s) original panel on which mine is based, is at the top of this thread. He used MIDI CC for the parameters, download it and see if the knobs respond to your Kiwi Editor on his panel.

                            nice work for the panel!

i got a couple of red “invalid resource” just above the patch number..
testing it on a matrix6, it works but cannot get panel update on patch change.

That’s odd, maybe the M-1K and the Matrix-6 send different Sysex. I have to admit I thought they were compatible.

Using the Ctrlr MIDI monitor (under Window) can you copy and paste the message sent by your Matrix-6 when you change patches on the panel. Save it into a plain text file and attach it to your reply. Maybe I can see if there are some obvious differences in the headers.

                              Hi Upeter,

I am glad that you are finding some use for the panel even though you have a Kiwi Editor.

The panel updates the parameter settings on receipt of an Edit Buffer message from the Kiwi-3P. At various places in the panels scripts a command to send an Edit Buffer request are written in, such as when a new patch is selected.

                              The request is the Sysex message: f0 7f 7f 7f 60 01 00 03 f7

Indeed when parameter settings on the panel are saved to the Kiwi-3P these are gathered from the various knobs and compiled in to another Sysex dump that is sent to the Kiwi-3P, so you setting in the Kiwi’s Edit Buffer are overwritten.

I can see two possible solutions:
                              1) Add a button on the panel that sends only the Edit Buffer request above, when pushed this should update the panel to the Kiwi-3P’s current Buffer state.
                              2) Add a function to the Kiwi Editor that also sends the Edit Buffer request to the Kiwi-3P. I imagine that it is possible to alter the stored templates.

I hope this is of assistance and good luck.

                                Hi Hobo,

Well; when you make a Bank / Patch change from the Ctrlr Matrix panel it should send a message to your Matrix hardware requesting a Edit Buffer Dump, this message is then configured by the Ctrlr panel to the correct parameter positions for the patch you are hearing.

If this is not working check your Ctrlr MIDI settings and use the Ctrlr MIDI monitor to see if data is being sent and received. Also check your MIDI interface and computer settings if problems persist.

It is possible to add a function to save the Matrix parameters as a sysex file to computer, this could then be loaded in a manner that will flash those parameters back to the Matrix hardware. However this requires some scripting.

Yes, I made the changes to labels before realising that the levers could be assigned to any CC. I need to go back and revert those changes.

                                      Hello,

I’m back and I have been fiddling with this panel so it fits better in my workflow. The changes may be of use to some of you so I though I would share the amended version.

                                      The changes are as follows:
                                      1. Addition of a pop-up menu to navigate the Banks and Patches.
                                      2. Removal of the Bank and Patch buttons to facilitate the above.
                                      3. ROM patches are named in the pop-up menu to aid recognition*
                                      4. Addition of an ENTER button to store the Edit Buffer to the Matrix RAM.
                                      5. Addition of a COPY button to move patches from one location to another.
                                      6. Addition of a numeric LCD style Bank and Patch indicator screen.
                                      7. Moving panel elements around to make above additions fit nicely.
                                      8. Made the panel slighlty larger.

I noticed there is some really elegant Lua methods in there, mine are simple and blunt but do the job. Hope this is of use.

                                        Hi Clancy,

Thanks and no, I am running version 5.1.2 at present. Basically because this the version I used on my last panel and I am familiar with it.

                                        Again nice work there,
                                        M.

                                            Hey,

My Matrix is up and running and I have to report that the panel works brilliantly. The Matrix has OS 1.1.1 at present but is due to be upgraded to the bug free OS 1.1.3 as soon as a new chip arrives.

My only complaint so far is that the processor on the Matrix is treacle slow, it can sometimes struggle with a stream of Sysex messages coming down from a modulator sweep. But that is down to the Obie.

A massive thanks to all those involved in the creation of this panel. Cheers.

                                            M.
