Ways To Back Up And Restore Chrome Bookmarks?

Chrome allows you to export bookmarks locally, which is important if you want to regularly back up all of your bookmarks in case something goes wrong or if you want to move them to another browser. This article will show you how to back up and restore your bookmarks.

Steps To Back Up Your Bookmarks

To back up your bookmarks in Chrome, go to Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager from the Chrome menu icon in the top-right corner of your browser window.

  • By using Ctrl+Shift+O, you can rapidly access the Bookmark manager.
  • Click the menu button in the Bookmarks Manager, then select “Export Bookmarks.”
  • Click “Save” after you’ve saved your exported bookmarks in a safe location.

Note: Google bookmarks are saved in HTML format. By double-clicking and opening the file, you can import it into another browser or see its contents.

Steps to Restore Your Bookmarks

There are two ways to re-import your exported (and maybe deleted) bookmarks into Google Chrome. Because they effectively perform the same thing, we’ll use the “Import Bookmarks and Settings” feature in this tutorial.

  • Hover over “Bookmarks,” then click “Import Bookmarks and Settings” from the menu icon in the top-right corner of the browser.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Bookmarks HTML File and then Choose “File.”
  • Navigate to and pick the HTML file you previously exported from the file explorer, then click “Open.”
  • Make sure “Show Bookmarks Bar” is enabled if you want your bookmarks to appear in the bookmark bar. After that, click “Done.”
  • It’s as simple as that. All of your bookmarks will be in an “Imported” folder on the Bookmarks Bar (or Bookmarks Manager if the Bookmarks Bar is disabled) once you exit the box.
