I’m exporting (to a player or bpanelz) a controller who’s XML is about 240kb and who’s image resources fall under a mb in size.
Why then is the exported player file 280MB?!?
I first started noticing this with 479 or 486… (on windows7, running the 64 bit version of ctrlr)…
I figured it was a bug or something but this is still going on with ctlr revision 490.Monstrum Media | Music, Sound & Software Design, Chicago / San Francisco listen
May 23, 2011 at 8:21 pm #2094just to confirm, and update this thread…
I cleared out the /Users/<myname>/AppData/Roaming/Ctrlr folder (actually just renamed it), opened ctrlr w/ a shift+R (even tho there was nothing to clear, just for good measure), opened my ctrlr xml, reimported all my resources into ctrlr, saved the xml, closed then re-opened ctrlr (with no issue or lag at all), then exported again a player file for this panel and yet again the player is 281MB. . .Monstrum Media | Music, Sound & Software Design, Chicago / San Francisco listen
May 23, 2011 at 8:33 pm #2093and for what it’s worth, after exporting this giant bpanelz ctlr takes about 3 mins to close, somewhere around the same to open…. presumably because it’s now referencing this ginormous bpanelz file..
do i have bad xml? I dont think so cause this only happens after trying to export a bpanelz or exe, doesn’t occur when working from just a bin or xml file.

May 23, 2011 at 8:38 pm #2095281MB panel file ? that’s why your machine host takes so long to close. i don’t fully understand what’s happening here. maybe you can share the exported player with resources so i can test it.
May 23, 2011 at 8:49 pm #2096i’m not asking why it takes so long to close. i’m asking why the panel file is 280 mb when the panel xml and image resources together are under 2mb.
I was as brief as possible while walking you through what’s going on, but i think you should follow if you go back and read the whole thread – maybe i gave you too much information ” title=”Smile” />
you don’t really want the 280mb exported player file, do you? I’m more than happy to share my XML and image resources for you to test. How can I find you on IRC?

May 23, 2011 at 9:07 pm #2097While I’m reading this I got the idea that my "Ctrlr-crash-when-export-as-player-bug" (which I was talking about in the forum & bugreport) could have the same source. Because it needs a loooong time when exporting and until the "License question" appears (then when I hit yes/no Ctrlr crashes – Mac). I assume that Ctrlr also tries to create a very huge file (my resources are less than 1 MB).
May 23, 2011 at 9:14 pm #2098i have no idea why those resources would be that big, but i have some suspects. i’ll look into that.
May 23, 2011 at 9:29 pm #2099at least in my case it’s not the resources that are that big… it’s the exported player… again my[b:3qism7nl] image resources and panel xml together are barely 1 mb in file size[/b:3qism7nl].

my bpanelz is now only 750kb as it should be!
thanks!!!Monstrum Media | Music, Sound & Software Design, Chicago / San Francisco listen
May 24, 2011 at 8:56 am #2101yep that should be fixed now.
May 24, 2011 at 9:39 am #2102OK, my Ctrlr crashing problems & msepsis issue didn’t shared the same source. I still (since 4 weeks) can’t export my panels – not as a player version and also not as panel (with resources).
May 24, 2011 at 10:08 am #2103can you put the resources and the panel as XML in a zip file, and send it to me for testing ?
May 24, 2011 at 10:42 am #2104Of course..
May 24, 2011 at 1:44 pm #2105the panel export crash should be fixed on the mac, also the mentioned additional Combo preferences are there, i was changing my release script and some things were wrong there (you might have noticed that the binary names have changed).
May 24, 2011 at 2:51 pm #2106Woohooo.. I’ve exported my first player version – it really feels magic! I love the idea of having a compact & easy to use final Ctrlr version. One thing: How do I select the desired MIDI device (it doesn’t work in the floating menu bar)?
Atom, it has been often told: the development of Ctrlr is really targeted & your support is almost unique – thanks!
May 24, 2011 at 3:07 pm #2107yeah the toolbar doesn’t work in this matters, since it was a one way communication for now toolbar->panel i need to make the panel talk to the toolbar when it changes, but i’ll do that asap.
May 24, 2011 at 3:19 pm #2108Ah, I see – great
