Hi all, CTRLR looks like being my saviour, I have an understanding of midi which is pretty basic and a basic knowledge of Java programming, looking at an example of LUA code I think I should be able to do some basic stuff.

But to my question, I set up a couple of basic modulators to control my JV2080, when using in standalone mode I have to have my DAW open to send midi notes and use the modulators I set up. Alternatively I can use CTRLR in standalone mode without the DAW if I add a UI midi keyboard – which limits me to single note presses if I use the mouse. No biggie.

When I use CTRLR as a plugin notes pressed on my midi keyboard do not play the synth. In the Midi section I set Plug in settings – Input to Input from plugin host, but the midi key presses on the controller do not register on the synth. Any reason why ?

      Thanks in advance

Have you tried the Midi-Thru options menu?

          Thanks for replying.

I tried each of the Midi Thru options one by one but none of them seemed to make any difference. Logic shows I am pressing a midi note, my MOTU MIDI interface shows I am pressing a midi note but the actual hardware synth does not register anything. If I move a modulator in the CTRLR interface though the hardware synth shows Midi activity.

Already tried resolving the issue with the DAW? For example a second track (input all channels, same port) without Ctrlr-plugin, out to synth.

Hi Possemo, so to confirm you want me to try by having one track in Logic using CTRLR as a plug-in accessing the JV2080 and another track setup to access the JV2080 directly (input all channels, same port) and see what happens ? I will give it a go tonight.

              Cheers

Ok so I created 2 tracks, one an external midi track that accesses the JV2080 directly, no problems, the second an CTRLR plugin track with the relevant midi port selected that corresponds to the JV2080.

The external midi track gets output from the JV2080 but the CTRLR plugin does not. I added a virtual keyboard to the plugin and that works, I see midi activity in the midi monitor when I use the virtual keyboard (monitor output) but when I press notes on my midi controller I see activity on monitor input. I have no idea if that is right or wrong. I would have thought the midi notes would appear in CTRLR’s output like they do with the virtual keyboard. Could that be the problem then ?

I have attached 2 screenshots of the CTRLR settings and midi monitor.

Not sure what to try but I will continue to investigate.

Ok so I have gotten a step further, in standalone mode now I get the midi controller to play properly, it seems as though Midi THRU had to be set to input device -> output device. Interestingly I absolutely definitely tried that previously and it didn’t work, but this time I got a tick beside the setting – I didn’t get that before.

So I tried using the CTRLR plugin inside Logic but no tick appears beside that same setting when I select it, no tick appears bedside any of the midi THRU settings. Could it be a bug ? Do I need to set ………..

EDIT – hahahahaa, ok I got it working. It seems hit and miss because sometimes when I select input device -> output device in plugin mode I don’t get any tick and the note presses do not show in Monitor output. But it is working now. Other times I have to select MIDI – Plugin options – input from plugin host first. Sometimes that will show a tick, sometimes it does not, but then if I select Midi THRU – input device -> output device my note presses show up and the synthesisers play.

Now my next hurdle in plugin mode is, if I create 2 instances of CTRLR plugin for 2 different synths, one on each track in Logic, the synth loaded in the first CTRLR instance plays only. If I select the other track and play notes both synths receive the midi notes (flashing lights on both synths) but sound only plays from the synth in the first CTRLR instance. I tried setting individual midi channels on each track and setting the midi input and output to those same midi channels in the plugin options section but no joy.

I am getting there slowly but surely 🙂
