Hello,
I test Jomox Airbase Vst plugin in Ableton Live.
I open the Airbase plugin.
I go to File > Preferences.
I set "Output device" to the Airbase midi port and channel.
I get the following message:
"Unable to open MIDI device: Port 7 on MXPXT
Maybe some other application is using it"So I switch off "Port 7 on MXPXT" in Ableton Live.
Then I open the Airbase plugin.
I go to File > Preferences.
I set "Output device" to the Airbase midi port and channel.
I check "Use VST Input".
I check "Midi thru".
Now when I move a fader in the airbase plugin, I see the midi led flashing on the Airbase.
It’s better.
But a clip is playing on the same midi track in Live and I hear nothing.
The Airbase don’t receive the midi notes.Thank you for your help.
August 17, 2010 at 9:32 pm #1851well you propably need to mark the Use VST MIDI Input checkbox to get midi notes from the track, assuming the midi track is the track for the plugin. If it’s a different track you must route it’s output (somehow) to the hardware midi port, either by sending it’s output to the Ctrlr plugin or some other way. It’s a Windows limitation you can’t open one midi port in more the one application, it’s not my fault ” title=”Smile” />
August 18, 2010 at 4:58 pm #1852Hello,
Thank you for your quick answer.
Screenshot attached.
[attachment=0:1a3ecoyv]ctrlr.jpg[/attachment:1a3ecoyv]
Description:
A midi clip is playing on the plugin track.
In the plugin, the keys of the piano keyboard in the bottom
are flashing (yellow color).
So I think midi notes are received by the plugin. But the midi notes are not transmitted to the Airbase.
On the screenshot you can see my preferences setup.
August 18, 2010 at 6:14 pm #1853ah yes that does not work yet, i’ll add a fix with next builds it’s a whole VST->Device thing.
One more thing, don’t do that if you don’t have to, your notes will be out of sync, its not possible to sync midi output from the host when sending to a midi device, there is no way to say at witch time to send them. the best way is to send the midi messages back to the host, it will know how to timestamp messages and how and when to send them.
August 18, 2010 at 7:12 pm #1854Well, I have to do this because I have to switch off the midi port in my host (Ableton) in order to use the vst plugin.
>the best way is to send the midi messages back to the host,
>it will know how to timestamp messages and how and when to send them.I’m not sure to understand.
To use your plugin I have to switch off the midi port connected to my Airbase in Ableton (the host).
When I switch off this midi port I can’t send midi notes from Ableton to the Airbase. So In my opinion the midi notes have to be sent from the plugin.
Do I miss something?
If someone know how to use your plugins with Ableton Live, please can you tell us how.
Thank you
August 18, 2010 at 7:15 pm #1855well in some hosts (flstudio for example) you can send all midi output of any plugin to the host, and the host deals with sending it to the midi device. So only the host opens the midi port and all the midi messages are sent using VST calls from/to host, this way Ctrlr does not touch the midi devices and there is perfect sync. But not all hosts can do that, from what i’ve heard and seen Live! can’t, yet Ableton claims it’s a VST host, well it’s not a fully functional VST host if it can’t do that, but you should talk to Ableton about this.
August 18, 2010 at 8:58 pm #1856I will wait for your next builds.
Thank you for your work and your support.
Best regards
