      Hello Atom,
Wow there has been lots happening while I have not been online, great work! You asked in another thread if anyone is using the Linux version, so I thought I would give some feedback:

I have tested on two different Linux installs. One is Puredyne 10.10 and the other Ubuntu 10.10. On both I get no Midi being sent <img decoding=” title=”Sad” />

I have tested the same panel (the Korg EMX found here), MIDI interface and receiving synth on each Linux install, other software can send MIDI but not Ctrlr v5. I can see the MIDI interface listed (Midisport 2×2) and can select one of it’s outputs as a device, set the panel to use the interface as it’s output and even see the messages being listed in the MIDI Mon. But nothing is actually sent from the MIDI interface (i.e. no lights lit and no messages received). Exactly the same setup works fine on a Mac (I hate typing that!).

Oh and I should mention that I am downloading from releases/Ctrlr_Linux_x32.zip, no time to build it manually yet. I will try that this week if I get some more time. Or if you can post a newer build….

Hope that info is at least relevant for you, let me know if there’s any other testing I can do to help out <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

Cheers for all the hard work!

      David

I have been trying to get the latest ctrlr to compile on a Linux install and thought I would post my notes so far. I have a few problems so any help would be appreciated….

I’m on a Ubuntu 10.10 based Puredyne install. I’m following the instructions from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=500

I have ctrlr rev 542 checked out and the Juce from git. I made the Introjucer, opened the standalone project, adjusted my paths and saved the project, this seemed to work fine.

But when I ran make in the Builds/Linux directory, I got this error:
          [code:2u05e3f7]Compiling class.cpp
          In file included from ../../Source/Lua/luabind/src/class.cpp:29:
          ../../Source/Lua/luabind/luabind/config.hpp:27: fatal error: boost/config.hpp:[/code:2u05e3f7]
I did some Googling and it seemed that maybe the boost library was necessary, so I installed libboost-all-dev from the repositories. The next time I tried make, I got this error:
          [code:2u05e3f7]Compiling class.cpp
../../Source/Lua/luabind/src/class.cpp: In member function ‘virtual void luabind::detail::class_registration::register_(lua_State*) const’:
../../Source/Lua/luabind/src/class.cpp:163: error: expected primary-expression before ‘const’
../../Source/Lua/luabind/src/class.cpp:163: error: ‘BOOST_FOREACH’ was not declared in this scope
          ../../Source/Lua/luabind/src/class.cpp:164: error: expected ‘;’ before ‘{’ token
          make: *** [build/intermediate/Debug/class_17f9c33d.o] Error 1[/code:2u05e3f7]
Now I’m not sure how to proceed. Does anyone have any suggestion?

          David

well yes you need boost, and you need to specify the path to the boost library in the JUCER project, i will check what’s up with that on linux.

I would be interested in a latest and greatest linux build as well.. only problem is my x-platform daw of choice (renoise) currently doesn’t allow vst instruments to send midi, <img decoding=” title=”Neutral” /> so it’d really be moot until they finally get around to allowing vsts to send and receive MIDI!

i did 32bit Ubuntu 11 builds today, you can download them, also the build environment has been fixed a little so building Ctrlr yourself should be easier.

I’ll try on ubuntu studio lucid x64, artistX lucid x32 and avlinux as soon as I wrap up on this waldorf controller, hopefully soon.

I tried the linux version in the new AVLinux (release 5) which is debian, and basically very similar to ubuntu running on lxde.. the linux version works – actually found some things work better in the linux rev – when you arrow key move modulators, the interface doesn’t scroll up or sideways at all. Provided your midi interface works in the first place in whichever linux kernel is being used the midi part of ctrlr works just as it should. I haven’t tried loading the plugin .os file into a daw but I’d venture to guess that’s doing what it’s supposed to but I’ll check that later tonight.

One platform agnostic xplatform issue no matter windows os x or linux, when you load a bpanlz that was exported from ctrlr on a different os, none of the image resources are linked properly.. It seems ctrlr has been this way for some time. Is it possible to get a fix for this?

yes ofcourse, i just didn’t know. The linux build is better cause it’s based on the later code and some fixes and improvements are there.

                        Hi atom,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to look at the Linux build. I tested it on both of my boxes over the last few days and it seems to be working much better now, cheers!
