would it not be a good thing to have such functions dealt with
in an onboard library? very offputting for average user to
re-invent the wheel all the time :O)i’m no coder for instance, and find it frustrating to have to
face Lua/LUA -whatever that stands for, i’m acronym-saturated, too,
i speak basic UK english, know what i mean..- for many of what
seem to me ought to be standard onboard functions.i like the UI but i’m finding some things a bit heavy. i haven’t
got a lifetime for this.(! i don’t mean that in a cocky way haha
i’m just pretty average in terms of skills)

OK – soi’m back to where i was with my fine structure 🙂
it’s a 4x tabs set with an identical group in each.
>i’m going to have to go through and change ‘Name’ in order to
differentiate in ‘Modulator List’
>but i’m pretty sure this is where i screwed things up last night,
editing Group names, and such. some confusion also with automatic
updating of Owner entryso that brings up something i saw about modulators and components
being different things – and i’m looking at it now:-Link to what type of property: modulator/component
>i realise i don’t know what any of these parameters are about,
and skipped something (nor any of the params right down to MIDI !)
>i just created a UIslider by going Add *component* (ah..), and
decided not to use a custom graphic, and have copied that as
many times as needed (for a time+level envelope control UI)
>so i didn’t pay too much attention to these, as i was focused on
building a tabs structure with repeating parameter groups on each
tab, for each of the 4 partials.-So, starting fresh, i add to main page area a new component,
UIslider, and get a blue knob, called+referred to as ‘modulator'(…)
>nb: i’ve done this 3x now,deleting eacn time,and it is up to
‘modulator-3’, although i already have in the panel (in groups on tabs)
18+ existing ‘modulators’/components created/copied previously.
ALL have been re-named for easy identification in Modulator List view,
so maybe: A/ it just grabs 1st available modulator#, or B/starts again
after a versioned Save?> ‘Owner..’ >owner TAB ! so it refers to Tabs, ok.
i thought i was doing well, but i realise i still don’t know what a lot
of these entries are for. it is a pretty hardcore way to view all this
info !! ( -and i can’t really see myself using bubble/popup dialogs at
this stage, don’t much like them anyway)
>i’m not entering MIDI sysex messages yet, i’d like to sort out layout,
and do that afterwards.
>VST Index: can i enter these at will myself? is there a 255 limit for this?
>’custom modulator Index’? what’s that all this?
i’ll have to figure out all the link stuff later. i just want to rebuild
the structure safely at this stage. -and i realise i’m not sure how ‘layer’
ties in, either(bit of a learning curve in progress..)oh mate… well, that’s a start, anyway !!
tag it as Critical Emergency or something lol.*nightmare* here: so i could not uninstall, it hangs, windows *and* ctrlr
uninstall…then i just deleted the directory, and was able to reinstall
previous version i had, and it wouldn’t run, again.
> so yeah, you got it, and i thought it had to be something like this.
have not been able to try yet,i’ll let you know how i get on.
>no indication of this anywhere, as you say, and i think i’ve logged above
where i was at with screwing up my file anyway.
>some confusion, i would say, with the way Ctrlr tracks what belongs to what?
good in the main, but i was surprised that different viewings of same
‘component’ (eg: ‘modulator’) offer a different param list !?
ie: 1,short vertical fader had the Owner entry, but a load of different
size ones, i couldn’t find it (it was 3am, but i did look carefully)
and another (modulator) had Owner appear above the entry it was beneath
for the other one – weird. you seen that? i’ll show it if get it back up.yup..big problem there..i can look at the panel in Notepad,
so i guess i could spend a long time finding a point i could
start deleting from, to the end, but i could screw it up also.so i’m moving all files produced to s’where safe, uninstall, re-install,
and i’ll see what i can do from there.
…
(i think some way back in would be nice at this point, like an
editable config.ini, so that user could disable pre-load and
get at preferences) (i did some good work last night, and got
a layout nailed…)- This reply was modified 8 years, 5 months ago by human fly.
right, so i’ve screwed up the tabs probably. how do i fix
a file so it will load? or force ctrlr to clear its last project
load? can’t even open it, no access.
enough for tonight…-thisis bad: Ctrlr no longer starts. crashes on load, locked out.
i’ve just lost a load of work then, have to revert if i can, by
renaming last version, if that works.
damn, i was nearly finished with entire structure.– it was maybe Owner Tab Index, which doesn’t seem tofollow
automatically after group copy.
– if found something odd: horizontal fader, and knob have this entry
but it isn’t showing for SOME verticalfaders – the slim ADSR ones,
with 0-127 range. other vert’ faders, smaller with 0-4 do have it, but
it appears in reverse order in the list..mystery. will reload.it’s done it again. after i copied group into the other tabss
and re-named all objects carefully,#’d per tab.
this is a bug.
or i’ve confused an index -but i want useful unique modulator
names,and it shouldn’t matter.more cleaning up and re-saving…
oh noooo…they were the objects from tab3. i hope it hasn’t
autosaved.. maybe i screwed up Owner Group?
b*ll*x, it did…autosave > OFF !!!
————
OK, fixed. that wasn’t too bad, just recopied and renamed
group from other tab,ok now. have to check VST #s etc. but
i should have useful unique names in Modulator List.
—————–
i want some osc on/off buttons(4) to appear on all tabs,
and do the same thing, and be synchronised, so that they
have the same state whichever panel is shown. thought i
could do it by assigning common #to each one but it
doesn’t seem to be working.have a read-up on sysex dumps generally:
i read that if you specify an address and send more than one value, the
extra values will go to next consecutive address.so, off the top of my head – i’ve never considered sticking my head into
a bulk dump file – you may find that your bulk dump is data sent to the
first parameter address in the parameter list, with values then cascading
onto following addresses.
? just an idea, like i said.how does Ctrlr retrieve a patch onto a panel? isn’t that a function it has?
edit>go to last post>

*crash* :o) i crashed it… i had just added 4 (old) faders into a new
group, renamed their modulator names, and locked their position+size.then i added the group to the UItab/index0(tab1) -but i was having trouble
moving whole group without hitting the faders. did this a couple of times
before getting ‘crtlr win32 has crashed’i did have weird thing in my modulator list with overlapping modulator
details, so i figure i could have had shared modulator ID values or
something due to careless copying.OK..thanks, i’ve read last 1.2 version now.
i have worked out how important panel> modulator list>edit> make visible
on canvas is !and i can copy a group with it ‘kids’ – children modulators.
> so this is how i think it should be done:
– you make your Group, define it, etc.
– then you put your modulators/sliders in there, do your ‘local layout’
and ‘lock position’ for all of them – you can unlock them when you want
changes.
– you can now ‘copy with children’ and paste. but it won’t go into the
tab you want immediately: you have to go to modulator list and make it
visible, and make it belong to the UItab you want, specifying OwnerIndex
…tbh, i’m still a bit unclear on a couple of things: at the top, you have
Modulator\custom modulator Index, and custom modulator Index Group…big wdf
there – but i’m going to start another panel from scratch and figure it out.
Atom’s evidently some mad scientist genius who doesn’t feel the need to
explain himself.
personally i’m not into coding anything, don’t know LUA from LUN, so i’m
not even going there.
gimme a shout when you post again, because i think some very good
explanation of the whole thing can be provided.YESSSS.
sussed. but not so simple.
and i would still like to find the easy way to copy+paste
stuff within a tab, like i’ve been doing in my edit of the
Jay-V panel without problem, (wdf…)if in doubt, you just call: panel>modulator list, and make
vanished object show again.so: now i can make subtabs within tabs, and copy into them
a group with children.but i’ve made a terrible mess in my
modulator list – moral ofthis tale is to name, rigourously,
everything you create, ‘at birth’ -but i still don’t know
distinction between diffrent types of name…(to be cont’d)sorry, me again – right, here is the problm:
i have a knob on a (subtab) tab. i copy this,
and paste. it land on parent area.
i examine its group, it says ‘subtab'(same group as
knob it copies) – now i cannot drag it onto ‘subtab’.
and if i untick’group’ it goes back to main area.
i can bring to front and enter ‘tabs’ again and take
it onto ‘tabs’,but if i now change that back to
‘subtabs’ (2nd set of tabs,inside 1st tabset),
modulator vanishes -isit deleted? idon’t know. maybe
i have a pile of redundant modulator#s/copies hanging
around in the background…yup,i have a huge messy list
of modulators in Panel Modulator list, still have to
figure out how to get them back or delete, and what each
one is. so this could work a bit better ! 🙂
AAAH ::!!! ;oD ‘make visible on canvas’ -why didn’t you
just say so before lol?haha gtting there.
I WOULD SAY: IT WOULD BE NICE IF A NEWLY ADD-TO-TAB OBJECT
DIDN’T GO IN AT THE BOTTOM,OUT OF SIGHT.ahem…and i think ‘modulator’ is a confusing blanket term if
it covers ‘modulators’ AND UItabs AND Groups. plus it is
referred to in different places, with new# auto-attributed,
so that is #quiteconfusing for the newb’ such a mself.yeah here we go, did it again: (soz, will be a bit long)
-i copied my group with its 2 ‘kid’ faders, and that was ok.
but i forgot to rename all concerned (… 😉 )
and then, when i moved it, one of the children faders jumped out
(outta the car!) into the tab.
-went ‘undo’,twice, no more copied group, have to start again.
>would this happen if i had saved? mmmm>SO: what about modulator name? in several places,we can name it:
>ok, looking at a tab-set (4 tabs)
-the tabs ‘set’,under ‘Modulator’, eg: name:’tabs’
-then we have ‘component generic’ -each tab has its visible name/header,
but ‘group’ is still blank, and ‘is group a member?’ is unticked
-no mention ofgroup under ‘component’
>with: the Group,now:
-the Modulator i called Fader Group, i now Fader Group-3
-beneath it, entries: ‘A custom modulator name, and A custom group name,
i have copied ‘Fader Group-3’, bcs i didn’t know what to put here..
-Q: what are these for? what should they be?
>with ‘Component Generic’
-group belongs to group: ‘tabs’ (as it should)
-??Owner Tab Index (aargh…i’m sure it makes sense, but..another?)
– and Owner Tab Name – isn’t this a repeat of member of group?!
>now:component…ah, thank g*d it isn’t there as well,lol 🙂
——————–
>so now looking at a child(of group,under a tab) knob
>modulator:
-custom modulator index group/ A custom group name >>???
>component generic: Fader Group-3
*NOW! i should modify this, right? otherwise, that is why it
jumps out. eg: always give new group name to copied elements?
this is tough, tbh. wish something happened automatically here.
-aw sh*t and now if i click on another object and back, i lose
the view i had set > really think it would be a big improvement
to make it keep view settings per object.
-what is a radio group? what is a bubble?
-ok, and then the owner params again.
>right so that’s it,so far; not easy, or immediate,to be frank !
and i wish the scroller did not scroll/screw up values by accident!
really needs ‘click-on’ to enable value-changing. can you imagine
debugging a large panel looking for something like that? would really
p*ss me off lol! ah. ok, thanks, hopefully more info there. has been a
great help so far.– am now looking at groups, in the hope that i can move
things together, ie: a ADSR section, or a whole filter
section. and hopefully copy these, to save work+time.-i have managed to get tabs-within-tabs (which makes sense,
if you think about it, space-saving on minor parameters, for
example) so i’m happy about that.– but i’m having some unpredictable behaviour, with object/s
not following a group that i moved to into/ontoa tab. i think
there could be an issue here. i did it with copy with children,
and the object ‘jumped out’. i’m going to try this again.– i do find it a shame that tree view re-expands itself after
you change to another ‘modulator’ (i don’t like this term, if
it applies to groups and tabs as well)– i also think that names on param list could have Bold for the
important bit, when they all have same (prefix) – would make
visual recognition much easier/more immediate.
(gradually getting used to interface…)i have this problem right now with disappearing Group name.
Not found cause although i’ve looked at all possibilities
i can see. maybe if i untick/retick, or re-open ctrlr?ok !! ican put tabs within tabs -yesss..
NOW > can i select all items in a tab, and
copy them, say, to three other tabs? -changing
their IDs eventually? this is for knocking
out the general layout initially.
(soz, not #beingrude about signing up for stuff,
i just lose track, and then get junkmail in inbox,
all that…) -
