ughh. easy enough if there aren’t many modulators. but not the case if there are many in your panel!

I see a few "??" here and there on the panel attributes, I get what you are saying about why the "Name [unique]" attribute under modulator and component didn’t get flagged.. but it still got pushed to the end of the list…

          ?
hm… I guess that begs the question… it seems there is some container these object attributes must fit in or else they get shoved to the bottom of the list. Is it in any way possible to allow these attributes to be purged?? like an "update panel" proceedure when opening a panel created with an earlier version of ctrlr? There are lots of ctrlr updates to keep up with – and that’s no complaint, believe me!

I didn’t ask the difference between the unique name and the visible name. I asked why there are two fields for "Name [unique]" … one is at the top under the modulator section and the other is allll the way to the bottom under the component settings:::

            [img:1lgglly7]http://www.monstrumsepsis.com/ctrlr/unique1.gif[/img:1lgglly7]
            VS

            [img:1lgglly7]http://www.monstrumsepsis.com/ctrlr/unique2.gif[/img:1lgglly7]

I would expect that changing one would change the other, but it does not. I can then have two unique names for a modulator. .. something isn’t right.

yes.. you want to output your knob from knobman as a 32 bit tga with alpha <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

btw the default knobs look kick ass there, ironically! no doubt though you can make some killer knobs in knobman, as you already have

Thank you for the compliment, atom is worthy of the praise here, from me your just seeing an explosion because finally someone got on the right track for an implementation of something like this. I got sick of the whole direction of software development in the electronic music arena since the early 2000’s actually.. soo much attention towards emulating hardware synths and not so much attention towards integrating the hardware synths right f’n infront of us.. cakewalk in ’98 was better at this than most "DAW"s are today.

On a side note reply <img decoding=” title=”Smile” /> we’ve still been active since then on the wtii label out of Chicago (home sweet home) but since I moved to the west coast, although we’re still signed -I’ve been doing a lot more experimentation and self-releasing rpm albums n such.. you can probably find this stuff on the web if you’re interested! funny note Paul works at Microsoft and I work at Google.. conflict of interest?? heh.. I don’t think we’ll ever stop working on music together though.. ever.

Of course if you have any questions on your endeavors with the Blofeld and midibox feel free to post away here on the forums. Atom is highly responsive to concerns, questions and suggestions alike.

ninja – I have done a bit of work on the panel since i posted, hopefully will be posting the 1.94 beta of this today.. I fixed up the osc1 and osc2 section, the wav 1-8 time and level ctrls etc.

I’ve been working on getting the shift functions working, it’s a bit more challenging that I had hoped.. but MAN have I learned a lot since starting this panel!

Do you happen to have any other MIDI in devices enabled in ctrlr for your panel?
Something interesting I just noticed here..

I plug a korg nanokey into my pc, (usb) verify the midi settings in the korg editor, sending on midi ch1.
                          Open ctrlr
Open "devices", set the nanokey as a midi in device, my dinky midisport port A as the MIDI out (which is connected to the waldorf microwave Xt)
I open my microwave xt panel, set the MIDI input device to the nanokey…
If i hit a key on the nanokey OR if I hit a key in the ctrlr device’s panel my xt locks up HARD.
I’ve never seen the xt lock this hard, sending an all notes off or panic does nothing from the XT, at this time my midi interface LEDs are all dark indicating no real MIDI feedback, just a locked XT. I have to actually unplug the xt, even holding power does nothing. yuk.

I thought I’d just add this experience to the thread as it might be a shared experience?

MIDI thru is NOT for avoiding feedback. what it IS for is to route the MIDI input THRU the output. Enabling it CAN introduce feedback in certain situations, which is why I went down that path. It’s hard to diagnose someone’s issue w/o having the full picture…

                              You asked
"Is there a way to avoid this feeback – Maybe some kind of "don’t send incomming messages to the output" function? Or am I on the wrong track of thinking?"
.. and.. well.. turning off MIDI thru is the common solution to that.

I see that you only experience this when sending messages from the tetra to ctrlr so MIDI THRU sounds to have nothing to do with your situation.

It sounds like Atom was already looking at this so I’d just sit tight. <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

                                MIDI INTERFACE MIDI OUT

                                > SYNTH MIDI IN

                                MIDI INTERFACE IN <

                                SYNTH MIDI OUT

Turn midi-thru OFF on your synth otherwise the signals coming into the synth will be sent directly back to the midi interface and introduce MIDI feedback.

                                That’s it <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

If this is how you have it connected and your synth is still getting stuck as you’ve described it I’d suggest first disconnecting and powering off any other midi devices you might have plugged into your midi interface.. it’s easiest to troubleshoot issues when you reduce the variables.

Then you need to experiment and find out:
When does this issue occur? After you tweak a knob on the Tetra or after you tweak a knob in CTRLR?
What are the activity lights on your MIDI interface doing when you are experiencing suspected "feedback"?? If there is indeed a midi feedback loop typically the interface lights stick on until a MIDI Panic message is sent.

It is very possible that what you’re experiencing isn’t actually midi feedback… are there any parameters you’ve created a slider for in CTRLR that cycles through settings, where on the actual piece of gear it’s a selection made with buttons, or a jump from one parameter to another no matter what the controller’s value?? On the XT panel I’m making I experience a bit of lag when cycling through the wavetables – this is normal as MIDI is a slow protocol… I actually see better performance when I change that wavetable knob to a wavetable selector box, for instance. . .

I hope this helps, good luck!

what synth are you using? does it not have a MIDI thru setting?? If you want to prevent messages coming into a synth from going out the midi output port of the synth the standard method of handling this is to turn the midi thru setting on your synth/sampler/device to "off" or "out".

I agree, just a matter the look coming after getting a few things straightened out…
here’s a screenshot of the 1.9beta as I’m calling it

I was having fun with those Oscillator pitch sliders … still need to make custom gfx for those but custom gfx for sliders (non rotary) isn’t yet available.

I hope there are some xt users out there who might also benefit from this, I’ve been having a lot of fun being able to easily access so many features and settings on one giant interface like this as the microwave has many many controls under the hood you can’t access via the actual synth. Even if some of these paramters are otherwise available from the actual II/XT/XTk, the only way to access the one of 250-some parameters is buried beneath an LCD that is limited to displaying only four parameters at a time.

I’m noticing my workflow has been speed up dramatically with some of the recent tweaks, additions, and random developments to ctrlr.

This developers motivation clearly comes elsewhere besides money, but it also clearly goes without saying that Atom deserves some gratitude for the huge gap in electronic music production that he’s helping to fill in here.

ok. so if not uiButton, uiImageButton or a uiToggleButton … which kind of component would make it possible to lay in a button with custom gfx which toggles through more than 2 states??

                                        Thanks atom

I want to use custom gfx, the led indicates the state.
I’m using uiImageButton as a modulator type.

                                          I put:
                                          0
                                          1
                                          2
                                          in the button value

I turn the label visibility check box to off.

The image above is 60×66… each state is 60×22 (3×22=66)

I set the resource image width to 60, set the height to 22 (also have tried 66 out of desperation)

The button does not look right… it splits in the wrong place.

I turn the display value to "no value"

                                          the button graphic vanishes.

what am I missing? I’m on rev 416 on osx (will be back to a pc to try this on tomorrow)

                                          Thank yoU!

                                            Thanks atom,
Don’t make any promises <img decoding=” title=”Smile” /> I just wanted to confirm my suspicion that this app is more usable under windows as it seems less buggy on that OS – so I’ll use windows to work on my ctrlr projects – not an issue for me.

Thanks!! keep up the good work
