Wow – the GUI looks amazing!

One thing I’m really keen to know is if you’ve managed to include control of parameters which are not on the front panel. Someone else previously uploaded a Voyager panel however it could only access front panel parameters which meant that some key sound settings (e.g. filter modes) could not be recalled with 100% accuracy.

Anyhow, I’ve ‘followed’ and downloaded – looking forward to getting stuck into this one!

Thanks for your hard work !

      Best Wishes,

          Hi Atom,

Good to hear you have love also for the CZ101/1000 – CZ101 was my first real synth I got as a kid back in the 80s (unfortunately it was fried beyond repair by a good mate that borrowed it). I have a CZ1000 on evaluation from another friend which I was considering implementing a Panel for however stopped development when I realised it required more than simple single parameter modulators to implement (as you’ve said, requires ‘all at once’ SysEx dumps per tweak which requires Lua skill I don’t have). Keep us posted on this thread if you make progress want beta testers since I think there would be many people keen to get their CZ controlled by CTRLR aside from those already posting here.

It’s a shame that there wasn’t enough critical mass to reach the target. I gave what I could afford at the time.

The OSX .VST builds of CTRLR seem to have this issue for quite a long time. It is very annoying and makes the ride that much bumpier for new users to CTRLR.

This problem is happening as far back as CTRLR 5.3.85 (which is the last build of CTRLR I use since more recent builds seem to suffer from other issues).

I have found a work around however I wish it wasn’t necessary.

              1. Enter Panel Mode to invoke the editor which reveals the global settings for the panel (I drag the vertical separator to give the properties more horizontal space to make it easier to read).
              2. I collapse all the main sub-headers except for MIDI.
              3. Look for these settings and TICK them:
              ‘panelMidiThruH2D’
              ‘panelMidiThruH2DChannelize’
With these two settings ticked, the plugin will pass MIDI notes from the Host to the Direct MIDI ports and Channelize the data to the Output channel.
              4. I find it also necessary to change ‘panel MidiGlobalDelay’ from the default of 50 to 0 since on my system it create delayed MIDI notes.
              5. Exit Panel Mode.
              6. If you return to the MIDI Thru settings menu you’ll see these are now ticked.

              Hope this helps someone!

I’m REALLY looking forward to better OSX VST builds of CTRLR – I’ve found latest builds (5.3.198 and 5.3.163) are plagued with other issues such as very sluggish GUI repaints/updates and most crucially MIDI Library/Snapshot completely non-functional.

For the moment, sticking with 5.3.85 even though it has this ‘non sticking’ MIDI Thru settings issue.

              Cheers!

                Hi Possemo,

                > It is a PITA that the sysex implementation chart of the M6 is faulty…

Nothing more annoying than faulty documentation – kudos to you for uncovering the problem. ; )

                > For the OS of the M6: I guess you need at least v2.12.
                > Matt has the bugfixed v2.13 from Bob Grieb. I think this is strongly recommended:

Is there a way to determine which OS is in my Matrix 6R without opening the unit? Can’t find it in the manual and unlike the Matrix 1000, no OS version is displayed on boot up. πŸ˜‰

Still, I will install and give it a shot with my existing version. Thanks for posting this.

                > For the M1k v1.20 from Bob is a great addition.

Excellent – I had a good read up about how this OS version works its magic last night. Very cool. I’ll go for that version.

                > They are even free to download. But if you are using the firmwares from
                > Bob you should paypal 10$.

Happy to pay for his hard work. Love that fact that people are still making improvements to such an awesome synthesizer.

                > Btw. if you don’t have an eprom burner I could do it for you
                > (cost about $10 with shipping included). But you can buy them
                > directly from Bob too.

Since I’d be after both EEPROMs for the 6R and 1000 and you’ve kindly offered to assist, very happy to pay to cover your time, materials and postage. I’m in Melbourne, Australia … I’ll send you an email now. πŸ˜‰

Thanks again and looking forward to finally getting my Matrix synths to integrate nice and deeply in my DAW-entric studio!

                Happy days!

                  Hi Possemo,

Yes indeed – you have my attention πŸ˜‰

I’ll patch up the 6R and give it a shot (it’s a new addition to the set up – cabled and patched but yet to give it a proper work out).

I’ve just tried your panel with MAtrix 1000 and indeed, discovered issues however I am on OS 1.11 so I’ll look at ordering the EEPROMs to ver 1.2 (I LOVE this synth and looking forward to making use of your panel extensively).

Give me a couple of hours and I’ll report back results.

p.s. is there any need for concern on OS version for the Matrix 6R or is the version that shipped fitted ready for ‘prime time’ so to speak?

Wow – what a work of art! Looking forward to giving this a spin (I’ll have to look at doing that upgrade ASAP to the OS in my Matrix 1000).

I have also a Matrix 6R – is there a chance this is some overlap of compatibility?

Best Wishes and THANK YOU for your immense investment of time/talent to bring this to Matrix 1000 users.

Most definitely interested here – it looks like you have the Lua skills that I lacked to take my panel further (you’ve probably seen it in the downloads section) with memory management functions.

Definitely keen to help you test (I use the MKS80 almost daily). Incidentally I’ve recently bought a real MPG80 and I was wondering if there is a future possibility to allow external control of your CTRLR panel using a real MPG80 as a control surface for it. Currently, I have limited use for the real MPG80 since Push 2 with my CTRLR panel works really well (for Upper editing as a one-way editor).

                        p.s. your GUI looks great!

Just serving my own needs in the studio and sharing the fruit – but nice to hear others appreciate it.

I ended up avoiding Instance Exports long ago after getting caught up in a web of projects (in Live) around when CTRLR transitioned to Juice3 (I’m guessing that was a huge change and loads of work) which wouldn’t recall CTRLR plug-in properly and was breaking workflow … this was perhaps about a year or so ago? I can’t remember. But if it has been addressed in more recent builds I will take great pleasure in making .VSTs of my panels for my Synths by name (and recalling them using Instrument Racks in my Ableton library to preserve port/channel settings and bring audio back into the track with External Audio Effect).

Apologies if I have nothing solid for you to work with there but will revisit multiple Instances again soonish.

I’m focused on the Ensoniq ESQ1 Panel at the moment (new synth in the studio – and loving making sounds with it in CTRLR) but having some bizarre issues perhaps best left for a different thread.

Great news … I had issues early on CTRLR where if I had multiple instances (.VST) exported in my VST plugins folder (named differently for different synths) that they’d all call on the first version the DAW would scan for … Is this now fixed? Yippee if so (and I’ll go back to using exported instances).

I absolutely appreciate all of the hard work you do on CTRLR Atom. Please don’t ever think I’m critical of the project – just trying to make music while making tools to better integrate my synths (and hopefully giving back to the community for Panels not yet done)!

Howdy Atom … nice to know – which build is this fixed on?

Reluctant to move up to newer builds since doing so breaks my ability to open DAW projects created using older CTRLR builds (VST version on OSX within Live). In my VST plugins folder I currently manually manage rolling between different builds by ZIPping builds I want to hide from my DAW, allowing only one version to be visible.

Long term, I’d love to know what can be done to make it easier to stay up to date.

OK ladies and gentlemen, here is where I’m at so far … LOADS more work to go however it currently functions perfectly was as a one-way editor and snapshot firer to the ESQ1 and works fine with mine (updated the EEPROM to software version 3.50 however it should work fine with previous versions).

I’ll release a series of ‘alpha’ builds on this thread before publishing something resembling ‘finished’ properly on the downloads page of CTRLR.org.

Keen for any input, particularly those with great LUA skills, since I’m great at the graphics and GUI design aspects, OK with the MIDI side of things but I lack skill with LUA which I’ll get into when time permits.

Anyway, attached is the Panel so far with graphic resources packed in the .Bpanelz file.

Things I want to do next:

                                          1) Filtering out redundant NRPRN header messages to prevent ESQ1 from crashing when fed too many rapid tweaks (requires LUA skills). With the version here, tweak with care otherwise your ESQ1 will freeze if you tweak fast. I’ve set sensible ‘double click’ defaults for most parameters. I’ve had much success using my mouse’s scroll wheel for tweaking the controls and currently I recommend you do the same.

                                          2) Realtime rendered overlapped graphic display of envelopes since the ESQ1 sports 4 envelopes. Not draggable nodes but more so a visualisation like I’ve seen some others do here recently (That MKS70/JX10 Panel looks sensational and will be adapting the envelope code from that or using it as a learning example).

                                          3) SysEx single patch dumps back and forth and parsing the dumps to map to modulators.

                                          4) Patch Randomiser.

                                          5) Implement Layers/Splits functions.

                                          6) Ability to name programs created and zap them back into the synth.

                                          7) Supporting 8 way Multi-timbral use of ESQ1 withIN a single CTRLR instance.

Anyhow, any of you people out there lucky enough to have an Ensoniq ESQ1 – enjoy the beginnings of my panel project.

                                          Cheers!

                                            Hi Atom,

Nice of you to spend a moment to reply!
Hope life is treating you well.

I tried using the other Boolean button types (uiImageButton for example) however I couldn’t get them to work as expected. I couldn’t get the True condition to actually send the events.

It would be good however if focus outline for uiToggle could be optional rather than forced – I can’t see why anyone would want the existing behaviour. Setting alpha to 00 in a colour property will suffice in the meantime.

p.s. much respect as always – loving CTRLR. Still yet to get deep into LUA but I really need to with new panel project on the go (Ensoniq ESQ1 – which I’ve got complete working as a One-Way Snapshot editor but want to expand functionality) and revisiting the Roland MKS80 editor I started.
